THOMAS LEMMER & ERIK SATIE – GYMNOPÉDIES (EP)

When one deals with the roots of ambient music, one inevitably comes into contact with Erik Satie at some point. In 1920, Erik Satie composed “Music as Furniture” (Musique d’ameublement), which can be seen as an early form of ambient music.

Satie’s most famous work is the Gymnopédie No. 1, which he composed in 1888 with two other works.

Thomas Lemmer interprets Erik Satie’s Gymnopédies in a lovingly produced and timelessly beautiful version.

The three titles will be published on 24 January 2020 by the label Sine Music. The EP will be available on all download and streaming portals.

Thomas Lemmer about his interpretation:

“When I was working on my last EP “In Silence,” I stumbled across Erik Satie’s works. His Gymnopédie No. 1 is an incredibly beautiful piano piece. Pure and simple, but so beautiful that you want to hear it again and again.

So I studied his 3 works of the Gymnopédies. The more often I played them, the more I thought about publishing my very own version of them. I worked on a new piano sound that I subtly added effects to give the works more space and depth. I wanted a classical and timeless sound, but still modern and different from all the other releases of this work.

I quickly discarded the idea of making an electronic production of the titles, because, in my opinion, it would not do justice to its puristic beauty.Of course, I hope to do justice to Erik Satie’s ideas about his composition with my version.
